Playcentre

At Gore Playcentre children and their families play and learn together, developing skills and relationships that last a lifetime.

We believe parenting, particularly in the early years, is the most important and challenging job any person will do. Playcentre aims to provide a community network, plus free parent education, to support parents do this job as well as they can.

We put our resources into building families, who then move on and strengthen their communities. New families are always welcome to be part of our village.

Perfect for your child’s birthday party with full kitchen facilities included. You can hire Toy Library toys to give the kids even more things to do.

Playcentre operates 471 early childhood education centres around the country for children aged from birth to school entry. It is a New Zealand organisation and is run by families for families. Unique to Playcentre is its philosophy of parents staying with their child and learning alongside them and their peers. It also provides an environment where the whole family is welcome – babies learn alongside toddlers and preschoolers, and benefit from one another.

At Playcentre we believe in learning through play. We offer a wide range of outdoor and indoor activities such as playdough, paint, jigsaw puzzles, messy play, sandpits and climbing equipment and many more. Children are encouraged in their interests and challenged to try new areas of play that they may not be confident with. Our ECE trained educator along with parent teams guide and support the children in their learning and play.

An ‘Explorers’ session is offered to the older children of Playcentre. This is a weekly off-site session where a small group of children explore and discover our local community. Through this exciting programme, the children learn independence, resilience and team work. These are great tools for the children to take with them into their primary school years.

Parents are offered the opportunity to gain new skills and develop confidence in working with children through Playcentre’s free adult education programme. Training includes workshops in understanding children's development and play, dealing with challenging child behaviour, Te Reo Maori and many other topics.

Playcentre runs Tuesday to Friday, 10am-1pm. The first three visits are free so come along and enjoy our wonderful new environment at the Gore Kids Hub.
